I've honestly never read the book, we never had to read it for school for whatever reason. I really love the soundtrack though. Sia AND Flo + the Macs? Yes please.

Maybe this'll be the movie to finally get Leo the Oscar?

from initial reviews I really doubt it. If Django didn't, I don't think this will.

I am unreasonably pumped for this movie

but Poorochondriac has made me feel a modicum of shame about my pumpedness

Man, don't let him get you down

Also I am pumped for this based simply on the director and cast

I suppose I should get around to seeing the Robert Redford version at some point

    Don't!
It is awful and stilted and awkward
And then you think, well, once Redford shows up we'll kick it into high gear!
But no, he is the most uncomfortable person in the whole movie

That whole movie is so Goddamned sterile.

Jesus fucking christ the shirts scene

You know the one I'm talking about

The Keneth Branagh Hamlet is fantastic, so is Henry V. You can tell the dude loves Shakespeare and understands what those plays mean.

I liked moulin rouge a lot

it's really corny but some of the songs are great and I don't know. it's just a fun movie.

aside from that though I have 0 attachment to this director's style. the overblown stuff in moulin rouge worked because it was paired to largely good music, and paired pretty well. but I think you probably could've incorporated an entirely different style into the same basic story and music and have it work just as well, if not better.

Come to think of it all of his stuff that I have seen (Romeo + Juliet, Strictly Ballroom, Moulin Rouge) was part of my English curriculum. Which means that my old teachers will likely use this movie when it comes out on DVD. Maybe not, though, if it's critically panned enough.

You know that if it doesn't exist already, there is totally going to be a Baz Luhrmann course

That's such a slam-fucking-dunk. Gladiators, vomitoriums that are actually for vomiting and not just mass exits, rampant nudity. Holy shit, it would be incredible.
