Glasgow has a statue of Lobey Dosser and Rank Bajin.

Strangely enough in Woodlands, rather than Calton, where it would probably have been more appropriate.

Read the weirdest story. A couple living in a house were away for two weeks. They had an oil heater but removed it and the basement oil tank a couple years ago. As often is you still keep the thing that the trucks pump oil in through since it is mounted to the outside wall. So anyway someone had pumped a thousand liters of oil straight into their basement.

    That was a new one.

Did it take place in BC Canada?

There was a similar story involving a house here in town.

This one I read about was in Sweden. But upon reading it I figure this probably happens sometimes, I mean my parents house hasn't had an oil tank for 15 years but that oil intake is still there in the wall. I imagine sometimes the oil delivery gets the wrong address and then blub blub blub blub.

I don't recall the town I grew up in having a statue of anyone. But near by there was this statue:

There's no living with a killing. There's no goin' back from one. Right or wrong, it's a brand... a brand sticks. There's no goin' back. Now you run on home to your mother and tell her... tell her everything's alright. And there aren't any more guns in the valley.

my town's university (which I also went to) has a statue called silent sam who represents southern soldiers slain in the civil war. there are a few silent sams in various locations in the south, and all of them face northward to guard against further aggression.

    it's a pretty majestic statue

    300px-Silent_Sam.jpg

about 50 fifty behind silent sam is the 'slave table' which is a pretty small, weird memorial to the slaves who built UNC's campus

The town I grew up in had a statue of Buddy Holly. It was in such an out-of-the-way ugly part of town that I never visited it until I was like 20.

A much more awesome statue, which we only had temporarily apparently, was installed near the university's science and history museum: He is they are. The picture doesn't show it but that thing is like 10 foot tall and it always filled me with awe to see it as a kid. I was so sad when they finally took it away.

those things are great. My neighbor's yappy little dog has one.

His mother works with kids with disabilities and says that some of them (especially those with severe autism) respond well to a similar kind of vest.

What you think "makes sense" has nothing to do with reality. It just has to do with your life experience. And your life experience may only be a small smidgen of reality. Possibly even a distorted account of reality at that. So what this means is that, beginning in the 20th century as our means of decoding nature became more and more powerful, we started realizing our common sense is no longer a tool to pass judgment on whether or not a scientific theory is correct. - Neil Degrasse Tyson
