DGR drafts seem pretty cool so far.

I drafted a Dimir-Simic-Golgari deck with some black rakdos unleashers and two copies of the enchantment that lets you draw a card every time your creatures with +1/+1 counters do combat damage to players. At one point I had two copies on the board and a Simic Fluxmage who was handing out +1/+1 counters like cheap cigars. Many cards to be drawn.

Oh man Bred for the Hunt.

It's hard to make a Bred for the Hunt deck work, but when it works, it feels so damn good.

Dimir-Simic-Golgari is definitely a thing! I played one in sealed at the prerelease. It helped that I pulled a Varolz.
I am comforted by Richard Dawkins’ theory of memes. Those are mental units: thoughts, ideas, gestures, notions, songs, beliefs, rhymes, ideals, teachings, sayings, phrases, clichés that move from mind to mind as genes move from body to body. After a lifetime of writing, teaching, broadcasting and telling too many jokes, I will leave behind more memes than many. They will all also eventually die, but so it goes. - Roger Ebert, I Do Not Fear Death

RdR needed dlc that wasn't multiplayer or zombies

Dude, I loved the multi. I actually played some multiplayer poker for a while.

I played so much multi it was incredible.

I would have payed cash monies to do two player coop Undead Nightmare though.

    Um

There were co-op undead nightmare rounds. I played the shit out of them.

Nono, sorry, I mean like, the campaign. Or just generic multi. Riding around with a friend, getting stopped by a horde of undead, etc.

As I play San Andreas, I like to imagine that the various humiliations CJ endures help broaden his worldview. Like, after being deposited with no weapons or money in the middle of the sticks, he secretly develops an appreciation for country music. Then after going to San Francisco I make sure he sports a pink mohawk, dresses really well, and turns the dial to the techno station.

You play GTA in a weird way.

it fits! the whole game is kind of about learning that the hood life is stupid bullshit.

also I need some kind of plausible reason for why I like dressing in the biker outfit, riding around the mountains and listening to All My Exes Live in Texas

Not gonna lie, I used to play imaginary meta games in GTA all the time. Like I'd sometimes actually just walk around the streets at a normal walking pace just to get a sense for what the city feels like to an AI pedestrian. In IV I would sometimes take full-length cab rides and not skip them, just to look out the windows and watch the city go by.

    I do this too!

    So did I.

Also I never fast traveled in Skyrim unless I couldn't avoid it.

OH! And the wagons between towns in Red Dead Redemption.

I want to play a survival mod for Skyrim. No fast travel, and you have to eat and sleep regularly in order to survive.

This has to exist already, I should go find it.

You and I have completely different ideas of what constitutes fun in an RPG.

I think needing to eat and sleep in your games is perhaps the worst mechanic ever invented. But this is OK!

    We can like different things.

i'm on team spool on this one

i played shenmue back on the dreamcast

and i got through most of it before realizing that if i wanted to take out the trash before going to work and getting back home at a reasonable time

    well

    i wouldn't be playing a video game

You really can just draft it any way you want. We'll see if certain things end up coming out as really dominant, but you want to do 5 colors? You can do 5 colors. You want to do 2 colors? You can do 2 colors.

You probably can't do one color.

    Probably.

I'm actually thinking 4 colors might be a safe bet to go for most of the time.

One of the things that is interesting is that the mana fixing is all front-loaded to the first pack. This makes me wonder if it will be pretty viable to just force the guilds you want by taking the gates/cluestones.

EDIT: From my limited experience so far, it seems that you have a good chance of getting handed a bomb rare for your deck two or three picks in just because dual-colored rares discourages splashing.

    finally home

today went on far too long
What you think "makes sense" has nothing to do with reality. It just has to do with your life experience. And your life experience may only be a small smidgen of reality. Possibly even a distorted account of reality at that. So what this means is that, beginning in the 20th century as our means of decoding nature became more and more powerful, we started realizing our common sense is no longer a tool to pass judgment on whether or not a scientific theory is correct. - Neil Degrasse Tyson

Gonna get serious for a minute, maybe

I've been having a mixed relationship with [chat] recently

I mean, you're all great people

But, while I've cut back on how much time I spend on here

I still spend a lot of time on here (mostly before bed) that I could be spending doing ... other stuff

Like my free time in a new town should probably be spent developing a social circle, right?

But after work and gym/running I'm pretty much brain-dead and [chat] is easy social interaction, most of the time

So I'm flip-flopping on whether or not I should cut [chat] out for a bit

But at the same time lots of you are rad as heck, and I'm a proponent of the idea of online communities

However if I really believe that, I should probably be taking a more active role in actually interacting with y'all

Anyway I'm really just being over-dramatic because I'm a sensitive babby especially after discovering that stupid wedding website earlier and I am not coping amazingly, surprise surprise >_>

Narwhal, this is exactly why I quit chat for so long (well, one of the reasons).

For me at least, it didn't do a lot to get me out into the world, really. Truth is, chat is probably a better motivator for that than what I replaced it with (playing video games and browsing reddit). You should just be taking whatever opportunities you can get to go out, just don't let chat get in the way of remembering to set aside time to interact with the people around you.

I like chat a lot, and I have also maintained a strong circle of IRL friends, but then again I am positively made of free time. Maybe this summer (if I'm working full time) and this fall (when I start my degree and really need new friends in the new home country) I will cut back, but for now chat provides me with a whole new realm of people to interact with that I would never get the chance to talk to in real life. Also, many/most of you are super smart and know everything about things I don't know about, which is awesome!

hey now, XNA is super rad. For 2D games anyway.

And on modern video cards 2D is actually harder than you'd think. A lot of frameworks, such as Unity, fuck it up and make it run worse than 3d even.

Video cards don't like huge textures and like being able to optimize swaps to texture memory. You need a very nontrivial batching system to make 2d work efficiently on them.
