Oh, entirely in japanese... useless to me then.

Though the two other people I had in mind could probably read it no problem.

Change worship into dedicates or idealizes.

    Hm...

But then it just reads as "everyone values certain things over other things"

    Which, yeah, of course.

I don't mean gods. And I don't mean values. It's a hard concept to define, but worship is pretty close. Not that kneeling fawning Christian worship, but worship as in adore, aspire to, take on as a central part of your identity. Define yourself by. That's much bigger than 'to value'. And as he says, it can be a tremendous intellectual and emotional trap.

He says it better than I can, and it needs the context of the whole speech to make proper sense. But it rings true to me.

but caching is how all efficient minds work

it doesn't matter how much you introspect, if you have to derive everything from first principles every time, you're going to waste a lot of effort. efficient caching of reasonably robust insights is the way to go. he is right that humans form subconscious rules of thumb; he is wrong on when it is necessary to re-evaluate them.

Soooo... you're endorsing the concept of a spank bank? :winky:

you... derive a bank from first principles? I don't wanna know. :rotate:

Nah, dawg. Just have an efficient caching mechanism of reasonably robust insights. 8-)

Wow, Youtube is doing some sort of thing to their servers, and it's giving me some cray hash values as a debug dump.

    Good times.

Sorry, it's a base-64 encoded hash value. Gonna be all decodin' on this shizzle since I'm getting a decent sample size for pattern recognition.

Also steam, it has taken you about 12 hours to get 6.4GB of XCOM downloaded. Thinking you can get the remaining 5.9 in under 3 hours is a little bit too optimistic don't you think?

SA. It's ADSL in the suburbs and the coverage from this exchange ends a couple of blocks from here. So 1.3 down on a very good day if no one else is using it at all.

Doesn't feel like much consolation when the fuckers who live next door to an exchange and get 25+ get it too.

He's one of those old rich people who only uses the internet for web browsing and email, and had one of his IT guys install all the software on it.

I doubt he has ever needed to download anything larger than a Windows update.

Could be worse I guess, my friend can't get cable or adsl (split phone line). Has to make do with paying $20 a month more than me for about a tenth of the data limit on 3G.

I've had a couple of craft brews from Australia this last year or so - they seem to do a keg swap thing occasionally

From Coopers try the Pale, Sparkling, Dark and Stout.

From James Squire try the Pale, Golden and Amber.

Then you should be able to find at least one of those that you like pretty much anywhere you go and never have to drink shitty beer again.

Lobethal Bierhaus make some awesome stuff, but sadly I think they only make enough to supply some local pubs in the towns around there and like one pub in Adelaide.

edit: If you're ever in SA for any reason drive out there. They have a restaurant at the brewery and the food is fucking amazing.
