I'll be miffed if gtalk lists are not added as an update in 1.x (I don't know if this is their way of pressuring you to populate the G+ circles? that'd be lame), but all conversations I've started in talk have ended up in hangouts, and I get notifications for any new messages; and notifications seem synced between the app, Chrome, and Gmail, which is super nice. I still want online status, and read-receipts (and the ability to turn them off - for myself), and a typing indicator.
Trying to organise when my parents will come to Japan before I leave is awkward, between the restrictions on their timing and the teachers here telling me it would be a bad idea to skip the last week of school
