There's something about it that promotes a kind of all-in obsession. I've met a lot of people where anime, or in a few more charitable cases, Japan, is just their thing. They've invested 100% of their time, energy, and identity into this stuff and it's hard for them not to take someone not liking it as an attack on their very being.
Which, okay, whatever, but a lot of them, on this forum even, have no problem being all "oh, I don't like Western __________" and it's like haha okay bro if someone said that about your thing you'd be flipping the fuck out right now

Now I can't believe I watched that shit. I actually care about the animation quality and the shallowness of most of it all gets to me. Also the creepyness of a lot of it is more obvious now.
But Ghibli stuff? Damn I cannot get enough.
do you have the owner's manual?

like guys constantly trying to see up girls skirts, falling over all the time, getting nosebleeds, horrifically cheesy opening intros, bad dialogue... ect ect
i have nothing against anime in principle it's just whenever i've made an honest effort to like it i've failed because the things that people seem to want in their animes piss me off

Don't worry, dude. I laughed pretty fucking hard at this so you won't be going to hell alone.

Well Bleach had a very good first season
It kind of dropped straight off a cliff after that, failing to deliver on its premise entirely and shifting into something a lot more conventional and a lot worse
It's like Heroes in that regard

Henry Fucking Mancini, who most of you would probably know as the composer of the Peter Gunn/Spy Hunter music
jesus fuck I love that guy. I used to have a $200 10-CD set of his stuff.

Akihabara Otaku culture is killing the growth of the medium
Unfortunately it's also the only thing keeping that portion alive
I never stopped
A girl I dated absolutely loved Ghibli stuff, loved loved loved it. But she had a special pit of hatred in her heart for anime and people who watch it. Apparently Ghibli isn't anime.
it's a shame, because i can honestly appreciate the artwork
but i'm not going to sit through awkward creepy drivel to see it

Yes Bleach right up until the end of Soul Society was incredibly good anime or at least very fun to watch.
I tend to like Shounen Anime but once in a while I'll find something else interesting
What constitutes girl cartoons?
i just loved porco as a character
he was an asshole but at the same time so lovable

and it really doesn't have much cringeworthy embarrassing bullshit at all, aside from a subplot about a girl character becoming a pop star with some really dated 70s-style tunes
like in its own way, even with giant robots and shit, the show is trying to be legitimate science fiction about characters and ideas
the characters, especially the adult characters, look mostly like human beings. like on a 0-10 scale of real person to SUPER KAWAII they are maybe a 3 or 4 instead of a fucking 11
and I look at the stuff I see people here talking about and it's just like hahaha holy shit what happened

One of my Exes liked the dreaded animes and tried to get me to watch them too. She started with something called trigun, I think?
I remember not liking it at all.
That was apparently the wrong response.
Oddly enough a good way to see what is up is to read the manga Bakuman which is about creating Manga/anime.
I was watching when it happened. Nothing made the broadcast, it was just suddenly Jom Ross saying there had been an accident, Owen Hart was seriously injured and, repeatedly, that none of it was part of the show.
i couldn't
i just couldn't
the robots were alright but it had everything i hate about anime poured all over the top of it in vast quantities
all the people were so KAWAIIIIIIII UGUU~

Is it nazi robots controlled by the Thule Society?
on a scale of one to batshit insane
how batshit insane is it?

That is a very false statement
i looked up some of the exhibits at the art museum. i arranged a restaurant where i can have my back to a wall, watching all entrances and exits. a condition was made that mim couldn't bring her camera. i had the secret service run the ssn of elendil's waifu-chan.
i think... i'm ready to meet people from the internet.
How did she even get an SSN?
Indeed the only one that is truly shit is the most recent, Gundam AGE
I thought the Thule Society just made flying saucers, not robots.
I could not get enough of those two (even when it was pretty obvious to me even back then that Saber Rider had esentially the same plot for every epidsode).
oh wow, this sounds amazing

Bebop, Ghost in the Shell, Berserk, etc
I think I only liked one crazy one, FLCL, and that was mostly because it was poking fun at pop culture and anime itself while telling a surprisingly decent story and crazy amount of action stuffed in.
Otherwise, I can't usually do the comedy anime. It's always romantic comedy harem bullshit. Cannot handle.

i've met a bunch of people from SE++ at EURO PAX which was a lot of fun
also i have spent a very fun afternoon with @Bobcesca eating burgers and drinking coffee
those happen to be two of my favourite things so doing it with good company and intelligent conversation (by my standards at least) was icing on the cake
what im saying is, PA folks are fun
