The forum drama I've been in has mainly involved the mods deciding what size mallet to use on me.

FTP models are tricky; a lot of western developers remain pretty confused about how far monetization should intrude into gameplay.
LoL did a pretty good job, but a lot of MMOs have intruded too far.
