The weather here has been fantastic this week, but way to pleasant for May. It's like a sick joke right before we start getting 110% humidity and 100+ degree heat for six months.

same here. It's like being fed Lobster on execution day.

It'll teach you how to write code, it won't teach you how to program.

It won't teach you how bits and bytes work, or how to manage memory, or the difference between references, pointers, and values are. So you'll basically be able to drag and drop and make it say things when you click a button.

If so, I understood that reference.

It's a nod to old school pulp covers, which Johnny Gossamer references in Kiss, Kiss, Bang, Bang.

There was one really nice guy so I hope he gets hired because he seemed like a cool dude

One guy wore a hawaiian shirt and started the interview with "I'm kind of a big deal"

    PROGRAMMERS

I heard of one like that. For a faculty member position at a university, the top applicant had a lot of pretty impressive publications in his resume. The search committee was talking to him, and at the same time trying to find some of those publications online to read them and coming up null. So in one email they asked him "hey by the way, we'd love to read your papers but we're having trouble finding them, can you send us some copies?" They never heard from the guy again.

    lol so great

hmm I will lie about this easily-checked thing, they'll never suspect

With each new series of The Apprentice comes another epic salvo of boasting and braggadocio. This Anglo-American approach to "bigging up" your skills and successes is a far cry from how things are done across the North Sea in Scandinavia.

There they have the Law of Jante, a way of describing the custom - which draws its modern name from a novel of 1933 by Danish-Norwegian author Aksel Sandemose - that forbids individuals emphasising their own success over that of the group.

Yeah I have no idea, or any basis to judge on the quality of these boot-camp programming programs. It's entirely possible these guys get hired and then immediately fired.

    No.

    PHP is bad.

All of the programmers at my PHP job mocked it relentlessly and were trying to convince management to let them re-write the system in something else.

    Apparently it was "too expensive"

NO PRICE IS TOO GREAT FOR BEAUTIFUL CODE!

i think that lil puzzle is not as universally memetic as people think. i have asked (able) programmers about it who had no idea what i was saying. i think it's more a function of where programmer meets internet dork (which is, admittedly, a fairly large intersection)

The first (?) episode with Slendy just chilling on the porch was pretty dang creepy imo. I skipped through a few, and there are some seriously unnerving moments later on
One where he sees something by the side of the road and stops and gets out, like c'mon buddy don't do that. And one where he leaves his camera filming him sleep and something slowly appears in the fucking room with him. OH and clips of his student film where it turns out Slendy is in the frame. D:

On the other hand I think they're up to like 60 episodes now? Naaah, not catching up.
