They're a bit too 'cats eye' shaped for your face, I think. You have a fairly oval-roundish shaped head, and that generally works best with more rectangular frames or ones with harder edges.

I'm thinking the same thing so far. There's a reason I've gone with black rectangles for so long! :P

Online shopping has its hits and misses sometimes!

It's always good to take a risk on something different, but yeah, I like the top rectangular ones as well.

No no Raven, if anything this has taught me that change is bad.

Crew cut, Black-framed rectangular glasses, no tattoos or piercings or jewelry of any kind, white t-shirt, jeans and sandals.

    Every. Day.

    Can't mess with perfection. :D

or when that one singer did My Generation and said "I hope I don't die before I get old"

that pissed me off because she -changed it AND -changed it in a way that is directly insulting to the entire point of the song

I get hating on that type of thing.

a lot of these competitors are incredibly technically proficient singers

stuff being sacred is weird, let talented young people put their spin on whatever

They aren't sacred, they just demand respect and understanding. If you learn the history of a song and then intentionally choose to go a different way with it that's fine. Being oblivious to the history and accidentally sounding good is not. This isn't the same for contemporary songs, not because they aren't important but because they aren't as removed. You can get a feel for where someone was 20 years ago in a way that you can't really get a feel for where MoTown singers were coming from without knowing more about the artist and the era. The past is a different country, and the further past the longer the journey.

being oblivious to the history and accidentally sounding good are both fine to me

Being lucky is nice, but it doesn't last as long as being good.

    that's ok.

they are just singing songs on a television show, in a voting format where they're awarded almost exclusively for being quirky or powerful. it's not like they're being judged on a whole album and their artistic direction.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LEjCttRx3hY

like this is kind of oversung and the power drowns out everything else during the crescendo

but hitting that note is what gets people to turn their chairs or gets america to vote for you

i'm sure they will put more thought into- and more closely connect with- their original albums, if they ever make it that far as musicians.

I like music that is good.

Is it better if the musician has put some thought into it?

    Sure.

But I like music that is good.

So do I. That's why I want to see more of it get made. American Idol seems more prone to actively working against this goal.

That article came off as Old Man Being Angry to be honest.

We will always have those old songs, they don't need to be redone in the same way. If they sound good, if they evoke a reaction regardless of whether it's the one the original artist intended, it's all good.

Your goal in one of these shows is not to produce a beautiful cover. They're already so overstimulated as judges and audiences that they probably can't even hear nuance or subtlety by the time you step up.

You need to produce vivid, raw vocal pornography. You need to give them an aggressive, showy earjob. That's just the only practical course. spectacle.

i don't buy it, they all have criticisms. it's just a way to fill a segment. just like you have to hear how everyone lost a loved one or is trying to do better for their child or make their parents proud and there are always tears. it's television.

another one- the lead singer for the script. in the voice uk, during the group performance he was very clearly the weakest member of the team on stage.

we are talking more about the voice. i don't watch american idol because i don't like the pageantry of making fun of the bad singers, some of whom are obviously mentally ill. the voice is invitation only and there are no obviously terrible people, every person who shows up on screen is at least a decent amateur with some being very gifted and semi-professional already.
