    From that same article:
Personally, I feel like the real talent with Marvel films is behind the camera, and the money should be put on the screen. It doesn’t matter which actor dons the mask. 40% – 60% of these movies are all CGI anyway. As long as Marvel turns out quality films with awesome special effects, the talent will remain irrelevant.

Okay while I agree that smart recasting could be cool, I do not at all agree that the focus should be on the fucking visual effects over the story and the interactions of the characters

    that way lies George Lucas

    RDJ makes Iron Man.

He is worth 40% of whatever.

His charm, ad libbing, likeness, and getyourbuttintheseats effect cannot be understated.

It is insane that people think he's being greedy for getting what he's worth from a conglomerate who will profit twenty times that.

It is also insane that people expect a for profit company to not try and make more profits.

I'll be the first to say I didn't ever give a shit about Iron Man until RDJ. The mainstream audience knows who Iron Man is now, and that's due to him. That movie would not have had the impact it had with a Tom Cruise or any other kind of bland good looking type. It wasn't that RDJ looked the part (which he does), it's that he oozes charisma out of every pore. He made people like Iron Man, even when his character was kind of an asshole early on.

And the new TMNT series on Nick might be the best incarnation put out. And I've been a Turtles fan since the original comic. You can feel the love that everyone making that series puts into it. The writing is unbelievably good.

Oh, by all means the VFX guys are absolutely crucial and it's criminal the way they're treated and the trouble they have staying in business, I'm not saying anything against that

But the tone I got from that passage was less "VFX guys should get what they're due" and more "who cares, people only see these for the effects" which is likewise not a good attitude

Also, it's not like RDJ is negotiating money away from the VFX. He is likely negotiating money away from himself, if anything.

    Also, I totally called it.

Because 9% think it's too high, and shouldn't be cut! 9% of respondents could not fully
get their arms around the question. There should be another box you can check for, "I
have utterly no idea what you're talking about. Please, God, don't ask for my input."

And keep in mind that it isn't really "Marvel" who is fighting anyone over salary.

    That'd be Disney.

Who has a reputation for dicking over actors.

    Actually it is Marvel.
Some reps tried to go straight to Iger in hopes of discussing renegotiations since Disney purchased the multimedia empire in 2009 for $4.3B - but were rebuffed. “Wait, that’s Marvel. You need to talk to them. I can’t have this conversation,” Iger replied, thus totally distancing himself.

that quote above is from an article that someone linked on this very thread Tuesday, which i always found as strange that everyone took away that RDJ wanted more money from that article.

Though it is a long article and the real meat of it is past the first 2 paragraphs.

I would really like people to stop casting Megan Fox in movies.

There are plenty of pretty girls out there who are also actually good at acting.

EDIT: Though, to be fair to Megan, the root of the problem is that we are still being subjected to female "main characters" who are only put in the script to attract the male gaze.

I'd really like people to stop letting Michael Bay direct movies.

Well he's not directing this one

Oh? Is it possible there's a glimmer of hope?

It's being directed by someone named Jonathan Liebesman, let's just take a look at what he's done-oh

    Oh
    2003 - Darkness Falls
2006 - The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning
    2011 - Battle: Los Angeles
2012 - Wrath of the Titans

I think I would rather actually have Bay direct

Haven't watched Battle: Los Angeles but those movies are better than Bay usually directs.

Don't sell the concept and characters short. Downey Jr. is a fantastic actor but he didn't make everything from scratch with movie Tony Stark. Without the comics as a foundation he'd have nothing to work with.

But considering how those movies were made, if they didn't have someone like RDJ in the lead role and able to work with Favreau and Bridges in really key ways, that movie could have bombed hard

Or at least it wouldn't have been the surprise smash hit that propelled Marvel into the film industry in a serious way

    Disagree

e: Though to be fair the only movie I've seen her in was Tron: Legacy, so maybe she's not as good in other things?

If you think she was good in Tron Legacy you will be perfectly happy with her performances elsewhere

Personally I think you could switch her out for a look alike real doll and noone would notice

I didn't think she was good in Tron Legacy, but I didn't think Tron Legacy was good at all, so maybe I should look at her other work first.

I remember thinking that Tron Legacy could work as a long Daft Punk music video, but the music is good on its own. It doesn't need visuals.
