Yeah I have a few books but it's really filled with a lot of useless stuff.

I just need a quick primer where I can select an origin language, and a destination language, and it goes through all the pitfalls, similarities, and differences all at once, in like a really quick few hundred pages tops.

    Like
"How to set up your environment with pictures and gotchas"
    "How you handle variables"
"This is how memory works, and how you manage dealing with heap/stack"
    "Loops? Here's how it works"
"OOP and how it's different on this platform (where the origin language helps!)"
    "You're done holmes"

I wonder how much money I could make writing books like that.

Like seriously, I don't need 50 pages on how variables work in obj-c, and how to add two 32 bit ints.

even when I was in tech school, each programming class started with "here's how to declare a variable"

i secretly believe it's because the people who author these things themselves are mystified by the basics

Hah well... Apparently Console2 is blocked by my company. Supposedly it's related to virus/malware?

Is there a better command prompt than command prompt? I am using mysql and it won't display anything properly.

Console2 never functioned any better than cmd for me.

It probably got tagged as malware/virus because it uses system/process calls.

Man I hate how inconsistent animated GIFs can be! :)

Have code where it seems to be working for all now, while still being optimized. I could easily have had it go full retard and draw full frames but that is much larger than the avatar size and broke the 500kb limit. :P

    i have a career-ish question.

i'm beginning my second year in community college this fall, so i'll be transferring in the fall of '14.

my question is: i won't be headed to a great school, CS ranking well outside of the top 100. i'm trying not to be too bummed over that- gonna make the most that i can out of the opportunity. but unlike a lot of people who broke into programming on raw ability and a portfolio, sans degree, i just don't have that. i'm doing recreational coding outside of class but i am definitely not at the point where i'm making interesting, novel creations to show off.

so my question is, as someone who plans to follow the pretty traditional 'four years of school with an internship between junior and senior year' path, how do i maximize that when i'm at a not-great school

they have a career fair and all but it's not going to attract a wide breadth of employers and i'm wondering if that just constrains me to the local employers with whom my school has connections? like, are top international tech firms (msoft, amazon, apple) just right out or can i even bother applying from an unranked school without a portfolio to speak of?

    thanks for any input!
