It looks like a mashup of Terraria and Rune Factory.
Which is pretty much a game that fits right in some people's wheelhouse. You're not missing anything, it's just not touching your happy spots like some other people.

Was there ever an explanation given in Bioshock Infinite for why they were apparently cool with women being in the cops/military? I missed a lot of voxes.

That's a really good point. Best I can figure is that Columbia's leading scientist being female may have shattered the glass ceiling much faster in that universe than in ours. Too bad racism didn't follow up.
