storing files isn't as important as it used to be.

    You can stream video

You can store your documents in dropbox

you can store your photos in dropbox (I prefer flickr for my for realsies photos. I keep a yearly subscription)

so it's pretty much games and software

Man, screw even having that 1TB drive. Uninstall the games you're not playing. SSD-only, no big file collections.

not everyone has a good data plan for streaming music/movies

also gpm only lets you upload 20k songs

I don't wanna go without a third of my collection :(

I use my iPad every day but I also use it as a mobile protocol book at the bench. One day I will drop acid on it or something and ruin it but until then it has been awesome.

Weirdly the thing that's made me think about it the most is that pdfs make the ereader I inherited from Cesca juuuust slow enough to be annoying.

So I'm kind of thinking of it as a colour ereader that I might use for other things, if/when I have the cash to pick one up.
I actually bought the newest iPad because it had the most amazing clarity I had ever seen for scientific literature in pdf form. I have an entire library of papers and protocols and I can zoom in on anything when I want and it is wonderful and not slow as fuck like most ereaders that I have seen.

that surface RT that work gave me is a kickass color pdf reader.

It chews through even high res full color scanned pages PDF without slowing or being annoying when scrolling.

Though it's rather pricey for a reader if you aren't getting it for free.
What you think "makes sense" has nothing to do with reality. It just has to do with your life experience. And your life experience may only be a small smidgen of reality. Possibly even a distorted account of reality at that. So what this means is that, beginning in the 20th century as our means of decoding nature became more and more powerful, we started realizing our common sense is no longer a tool to pass judgment on whether or not a scientific theory is correct. - Neil Degrasse Tyson
