That was big in the east for a time. Though as I understand it the religion is more a fusing of Gnostic and Persian ideas and not directly descended from Christianity.
I see
Both were choice
"called a distinguished pornographer by Jules Barbey d’Aurevilly"
That is not a phrase you hear anymore!
Every time there's a thread on "greatest album ever" or "desert island albums" or music of the 90s, I make a point to pimp the hell out of Endtroducing.
No, really.

I thought it was well known that they're really heavily based on Muslim tradition?
is chu fun or interesting?
LA
If you thought the problem with Dune was that it didn't get fucked up psychedelic crazypants enough then check out "Destination: Void". Also super fun times.
Do it or I feed

To the lions
What. Why am I dead?!
oh my god
i don't understand
No I knew that, and it was part of why I loved the book/overarcing storyline so much.
But I always thought he'd done an homage to Islam -- not a straight rip. I mean, I don't hold it against Frank Herbert per se, but god damn Frank.
It was the most delicious fast food wrap I've ever had.
You're not I was just making stuff up to make Chu feel bad about killing the internet!
Stop posting and get back in the coffin!
And hey, even if the show's bad, Ludious will have to cut back on the Parkinson's jokes lest it look like he's copying. Really, it's a guaranteed win.
Actual Play: Mage: the Awakening - At the Edge of All Things
Oh yeah. I'm not Muslim and didn't grow up with Muslims so I didn't know how close it was, and was young when I read it so the pitiful amount I know now still wasn't there.
EDIT: Wrong Youtube video.
*hoping this is the start of Lesbian Vampire fanfic*

Sadly, the first time I heard DJ shadow was off the Fast & Furious: Tokyo Drift soundtrack, so I mean, there's at least one good thing to come out of that movie.
Obviously the best way to proceed is to clone your smartest people (scientists, biologists, a theologian etc..) then raise those clones in a super controlled environment. Then pack them off on a spaceship telling them they are gonna colonize a new world. Throw a few thousand extra clones in the hold in cryosleep just for giggles.
Only the spaceship is rigged to be full of deadly problems and has a totally insane human brain as its main computer. So the only way for these colonists to possibly survive is to invent an AI before the ship kills them.
The story starts chronicles the wacky adventures of the seventh such deathship to be launched.
We need more trans lesbian vampires.
So there can be lesbian vampires staking each other.
It's a fucking lot.
This seems relevant to my interests.
instead of enough or sufficient
if you can use the number you can say up to 5
otherwise u have to do some sort of weird "up to the right amount" or something
is it really a "rip" though when in the books it is clear these are the descendants of Islam in that setting, not a new religion that just happens to be identical to it?
Uh
Wow.
Give me a season of this.
Outside of the parallels with the Butlerian Jihad (still love saying that) and I guess Space!™, I'm not seeing the similarities to Dune.
it's written by the same guy
edit: "The Godmakers" is the one that is kind of proto-Dune
that shit's public domain
so all the drivers were totally fucked and the trackpad was messed up along with a few nearby keys and it got no internet access and they had no install media whatsoever. so after a lot of toying around i put windows 7 on it and downloaded a key remapper and set that up and everything. my uncle loaned the dude a wireless mouse since the trackpad was fucked, but it was basically working.
but he just called and apparently he doesn't have wifi at his house, only ethernet. i forgot to install the ethernet driver because it never even occurred to me that someone would have broadband but not wireless. he is all mad and sarcastically thanked my uncle for wasting his time.
lol
what a fucking entitled ungrateful prick
Aside from the names, is it clear they're the descendants of Islam + Buddhism? It's not a crazy leap to assume so, but I don't specifically recall that being explicitly stated, but then I honestly don't know.
I hear that the pilot starts off kinda shaky
Honestly it seems weird to call something a rip at all if it's not based on a fictional work* or something. Like I wouldn't call a book with "Mers" that dragged sailors down and so on a rip, I'd just say it had mermaids in it.
*You know what I mean >.>
its wonderful and I still occasionally eat it and it enrages my wife
I need to pick up some more hot weather-appropriate work clothing
these shirts are too heavy
There uh... may or may not be some art that is this...
That I may or may not know about.
Maybe.
I seem to recall there being a timeline appendix in Dune that pretty much said it.
Oh durr.
I think I glossed over where you said it was A Frank Herbert Joint.
