There are a lot of really great things in the future and I'd like to see more Steve excited over something amazing that we take for granted.

Not even just lighthearted stuff. I believe our present is amazing and glorious in a lot of ways and I'm sick of stories where people from the past are horrified by what they find. There is no avoiding some of that but I'd like to think that if you traveled back to the 30's and grabbed people the more open minded would be proud of what the help create.

Steve is inquisitive and interested in the wonders of the present day and open to new things. There is a fantastic scene with him and Tony where Tony takes him to the Air and Space Museum and then shows him MLK's I Have A Dream speech.
But he is also told about Watergate and Vietnam and what happened to MLK and is under no delusions that the modern day is a perfect utopia while also being proud of the strides America has made.
It is probably my favorite Cap story.

I'd say the only smart thing about DC's approach is that they haven't adopted a hasty "anything you can do I can do better" approach. That wouldn't have gone anywhere good.

Seriously. It's an obvious idea. All of the (most of the) coolness of Batman and his villains, from an interesting perspective, with a fraction of the budget.
