characters in lol aren't balanced
but you can unlock them just by playing the game, which is nice

back in my day we didnt even have respecs
we put our skill points into whatever skill, forever, and we liked it

What I did is I picked a class or 3 (eng, infil and heavy) and a vehicle and only really played those, so my unlocks came relatively quickly (I earn about 80 certs an hour according to my stats sheet) and I still use the default weapon with most classes since honestly, they're just as good.
AA MAXes and vehicles (especially air) has the biggest increase in effectiveness with new toys, and those also then to be expensive.
Ground vehicles not so much. The default tank turrets are still the most versatile, and the Sunderer only needs 50certs for the AMS to reach 80% usefulness.

IRL basically uses Oblivion's leveling right? Where you get fucked over for specialising too much, fucked over for not specialising enough, and no one can figure out exactly how it works until their stats are fucked?

I like progressing my own skills rather than my character's skills! As I get better at selecting my equipment or playing the game I progress and feel accomplished. When I level a character I am doing something anybody could do.

You had to put a stack of quarters on a hotkey and leave the game running all day to skill up flute playing to an acceptable level.
