The point is, I don't think that making the princesses more stylized is the problem, even in Merida's case. It makes them work better for merchandise, advertising and branding.

I think that the problem is that the redesign is just ugly.

Jen's been rocking pink and/or purple hair since 2009/2010.

She was full purple at AusPAX 2011,

but by the end of that year she was more pink.

She's often gone with a bit of both, but for the past year or so she's mostly been rocking just the bangs as a colour, in various shades.

The reason I heard, which sounded logical enough to me, was that the dress they have her in is the one she hated in the movie. Also getting rid of the bow and arrow.

EDIT: Whoops, I should keep reading. The lack of bow is still a thing. Also I think because they changed her proportions in the redesign? Like she's slimmer.

there are a lot of problems with a lot of the disney princesses

meridas is really bad
so are a lot of the other ones, and in general there are a lot of problematic aspects with their shit, but merida's imo is particularly bad because a lot of what was great about her was that she was a new princess who didn't have a lot of those problems. But nope, now she's just like all the rest.
