I hate them both.
The West Wing gives a decent approximation of the various de jure powers of political actors, but then gets how people actually behave completely wrong; it fucks up what the incentives are, the stuff that actually matters.
It's terrible television.
only it would be a lot more than 7000 troops because Damascus ain't gonna crack that easy
And a lot of the rebels are hardcore islamists so we'll be fighting both sides
you dont call them fuck curtains?
I can't get enough of this
when the indigo children come
You guys think fanny is a vagoo
we're even, you filthy limey gutter butts
Thongs are footwear god damn it!
wot wot
That is pretty adorable in its naivety, considering how well known Obama is for not wooing Congress (either party).
obama had a funny joke sort of about this at the correspondents dinner
it was targeted at The American President iirc but the point was that it's a liberal fantasy world
We're humans.
Everything we do is about sex.
been half-reading chat on and off today
saw this as "It's anecdotal, but I love Corgis blah blah blah"
and that was via a degree of personal intimidation that would not fly today
The ... incentives? What?
People who don't like corgis are worse than Hitler.
That wasn't a joke. It was the truth.
"This is a nice Capitol Building you guys have here. It'd be a real fucking shame if something... happened to it."
*Shatters window with baseball bat.*
"Oops."

A person who doesn't want a job and doesn't pay rent is a bum.
eh, it's no worse television than any other popular 90s drama
it is absolute crap Intro to Politics though.
This is definitely true. Fuck, maybe I'll buy the trilogy and read that. Wait I also bought the complete trilogy and stowed them away.
Shit, do you know the number of books and Blu-Rays that I found last week when I was going through my old stuff? It reminded me that there were 3 years of my life where I literally did nothing but wake up, go to work for 8 hrs, come home and raid in WoW, then go to sleep. My free days were spent buying books and movies with my $19k/yr fatty Walgreens checks.
Oh gof all these things are artifacts of my misspent youth.
I kind of love those articles/leaks. Them along with HR 3997 Roll Call 674 help remind me of just how petty so many members of Congress are. On the one hand the world is on fire...on the other hand I've been insulted...
I like to think I'm primarily motivated by a hyper-inflated artist ego and love. Sex is more a thing that's fun and intimate but mostly annoying when not engaged in all the time which my body implores me to do.
Given the correlation that his legislative success had with congressional majorities, I think there's a good reason to be extremely skeptical of that claim.
If to "work congress" is to "enjoy massive majorities", then yes, he worked the hell out of congress.
herding dixiecrats into line at the height of the CRM was no mean feat
LBJ also had been working in Congress for twenty years. Obama was in Washington for about twenty seconds before he started running for president and has never enjoyed a super friendly Congress.
Southern Democrats
This shit is tedious as it stands
Who are gone now and replaced with teapers.
From what I recall, the Democratic majority of LBJ's time in office was largely fractured due to the Southern Democrats beginning their nascent rebellion over racial tension and civil rights
I could be wrong; I have one of Caro's massive LBJ tomes here but I'll be damned if I read more than 5% of it
BECAUSE IT'S A BRICK
LBJ being used as an exception to the then-popular idea that the president exercised influence via coattail effects and the bully pulpit
Is this a moob joke?
I had an Intro to American Government class a long time ago where the teacher would show episodes in class.
God that class sucked.
Colbert's "see democrats believe whatever stupid shit they're told too"
Yeah? Which party tells their constituents the other party is a socialist commie nazi who has grandma execution panels? Or that a gun registry is the path to taking their guns?
People changing their opinions on Gitmo isn't entirely unreasonable given exactly how fucked up everything became in the economy after the initial poll, it wasn't exactly a priority, meanwhile republicans deciding against the more energy efficient lights if they say "save the environment" on them is just plain retard programming
LBJ was like
nope
I'm going to get in your face
and cup your balls
until you vote the party line
Like inches away from your face talker, breath wafting over your nostrils
I can see how unnerving and intimidating that would be
