And re: taxes, I don't mind paying them, it's their application and fairness where I take issue. There's also very many and differed ways of taxation, and I'd say if you're drawing direct correlated benefits from every taxable dollar you proffer, then I wanna live where you live. ;)

Yeah, living in fairie land would be cool.

But that's not how taxes have ever or will ever work. It isn't a 1:1 transfer. But they are doing Things That You Need To Live.

Um, when did I say anything about abolishing taxes or needing a 1:1? I just asked for the facts of that "tax cheat" you were mentioning so I could establish if he was indeed a cheat, imo. I was just referencing all the people saying, "my taxes do good things." Is like saying your tithes do only good things. Part of it also goes to doodling kids/spreading aids in Africa. Except with taxes, you're compelled to give it against jail time.

So, unless you have a pretty strong evidence based claim for someone cheating taxes, I prefer to just assume they're paying their fair share, and let the IRS worry about the enforcement side. Our part is to make sure the tax code the IRS enforces is fair, and that they're bankrolled properly to enforce it.

I have no idea what you're talking about.

The situation I am describing is a gated community trying to get out of paying their taxes and make tax-exempt institutions foot the bill instead.

Yes, and I said link? Then you went on about something something me being anti-taxes and not wanting to pay my fair share of all the good the government has done for me.

Well, no, I didn't say you were antitaxes at all. You seem to be injecting a lot of things into the pretty clear cut situation.

Gated community is built in a town, it expands out of the town into the county. The houses in town don't want to pay taxes so they start a campaign to get out of their taxes and make local churches and schools foot the bill instead.

And I'm not linking a story about my local area because I don't frankly want to broadcast where exactly in Florida I live.

    :rotate:

What, exactly, is it that confused you?

The pretty plain English of the text? Because if you could pull out a quote where I called anyone a tax cheat that'd be great.

Though I'll do it now, these people are trying to cheat their local taxes. It's pretty open and shut.

    Kluver-Bucy is fantastic.

Especially since we induced it in monkeys by giving them brain damage.

Some scientists were sitting around going, "Hey, what happens if we find the part of a monkey's brain that lets them recognize objects by sight, and we STAB IT WITH AN ICE PICK?"

Oh, well, it turns out that the monkeys basically go through a simple flowchart. Pick up object. Can I eat object? No. Can I fuck object? No. Okay, move on to next object.

I mean really there's some universal truth there.

Those poor brain-damaged monkeys were wise in their own little brain-damaged monkey way.

it looks like my monitor has VESA Wall Mounting : 100x100mm

so I can get something like this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824994001 and attach it to the back, yeah?

that replacment stand doesn't look much more stable than the one I have :i

That's the stand I bought and it's rock solid. I hooked it up to a 27" heavy thing so it might be a little bulky for a much smaller monitor but I can vouch for its quality and sturdiness. I mean, for $45 it better be!

Sometimes you have to just laugh. Watching the ’round-the-rump path that global asset managers have taken to arrive at basic Keynesian – pre-Keynesian indeed – understandings of macroeconomics is one of those times. From Mike Dolan:
“Bizarrely, despite all this debt issuance there is a shortage of bonds,” said Alan Higgins, Chief Investment Officer at British private bank Coutts, adding there were plenty of signs of what he called “leakage” within the more conservative fixed income funds to higher-risk securities as a result.

    . . .

What’s more, this bond drought on the investment markets has added to growing concern about a shortage of high quality collateral – typically top-rated bonds – pledged and repledged within the financial system to raise cash.

So, what you seem to be saying here is that when the households all try to pay down debt, banks have no one to lend to and have to load up on government bonds. If governments don’t produce enough bonds then yields will collapse as billions of savers all chase the same few borrowers. What’s more this could actually have perverse consequences for system wide liquidity and the functioning of capital markets.

It's almost crazy enough to make sense.

I would love to borrow a couple thousand dollars to repair my credit but my credit is too poor to borrow anything.
