Something doesn't have to affect me personally for me to recognise that it's bad. I don't want to give money to a company that will completely distort the reality of its products with a demo that is almost totally untrue to the actual quality of the game, as well as flat-out lie in statements about the game, and possibly also have basically taken the funding for a game and put it to use on their own game instead.

what if a different team inside of the company worked on it

Ideally, the lack of people supporting their company would eventually meant that they find new employment with companies that aren't morally bankrupt.

Realistically, I'd still be supporting the people responsible for these decisions, and enabling them to repeat decisions of that sort without any worry about consequence, which is something I don't want to do.

I feel so bad for my neighbors since my puppy keeps waking up at 1am, 3am, 5am barking and then hearing me pick her up and run down 3 flights of stairs to let her out.

I almost feel like I should write everyone in my building a small letter saying something like, "I apologize ahead of time for the noise, I'm trying to house train a puppy."

I'm just not understanding this. You can boycott whatever you want, of course, but plenty of the big game companies - EA, Activision, Nintendo, Eidos - have done something shadier in the past 3 decades.

This scene in Home and Away takes place in a garage.

In the centre of the shot is a brand new Triumph Speed Triple, and the actors are doing their thing either behind the motorbike or in the edges of the screen not occupied by motorbike closeup.

I'm not sure if this is product placement or what, because that would seem kind of an incongruous product for the audience.

You're talking about a company that did product placement in a video game.

    Really? In what?

EDIT: MGS apparently. That makes more sense than a soap opera aimed at teenage girls, though.

There is a huge difference between a large, publically traded publisher like EA who either owns or contracts to many studios around the world and a fairly small, privately owned development studio like Gearbox with one management structure.

The people who were ultimately responsible for Aliens: Colonial Marines are the same ones responsible for the other games they make.

edit: and those are the same people who benefit from the success of any of their games as well.

What you think "makes sense" has nothing to do with reality. It just has to do with your life experience. And your life experience may only be a small smidgen of reality. Possibly even a distorted account of reality at that. So what this means is that, beginning in the 20th century as our means of decoding nature became more and more powerful, we started realizing our common sense is no longer a tool to pass judgment on whether or not a scientific theory is correct. - Neil Degrasse Tyson

I am a bit pissed about that. Because Gearbox does have hell of talented people there but they have a history of stealing resources from then shitting all over any game they do that is not Borderlands in order to fund the development of the next Borderlands.

Sega? Sega was the publisher and they reaped the benefit. The terrible Aliens game sold pretty well for a dud.
